About

Rat King Web Design has been my freelance project since 2001. I specialise in designing sites for people and companies who want a small, inexpensive web presence to begin with, as well as their own domain name and accompanying e-mail addresses. Of course, it is simple to achieve this with an off the shelf template or cheap web design software, but my approach is to create something original and eye-catching that reflects the personality of the individual or organisation it is representing. All my work is coded by hand, which means extra attention is paid to making sure your site looks as it should in every browser & on mobile devices, and is fully accessible to as many users as possible. Below are some examples of my most recent commercial work for GrowCreate.

Hitachi Solutions

A very challenging design because of content changes for different viewports, subtle animations, the need to accomodate several languages and just getting everything to line up properly on multiple devices.

Ethenea

The first Episerver project we did, and easily the most complex project we had ever attempted. Once again, the multiple languages proved a challenge for the layout. The Client wanted some interesting rollover animations, including having them trigger on scroll for mobile devices and tablets. Deeper in the site there are a lot of charts which made good use of the Highcharts JavaScript plugin.

Stokers

This was a project we inherited and have reskinned and added to over the years. Another major challenge was the fact that this company has many stores with different names, and different web sites, all over the country. All the sites shared the same code base but a unique brand identity, and the Stokers code had to work on all of them. The Client had very strong ideas on how the site should look on different devices which often meant extra code because it was impossible to do just with Bootstrap.

FE fundinfo

Another financial web site, a lovely design with some really smooth rollovers. Along with the usual issues with multiple languages, this site also has a Chinese option, a first for us. Once again, keeping everything lined up and in the right place when changing languages was the main difficulty, with different items showing depending on the viewport.
